Frequently Asked Questions
“It’s not how hot the sauna gets, it’s the quality of the löyly.”
The Basics
-
Please bring two towels (one to sit on, one to dry off) and a refillable water bottle.
Bathing suits are required and we suggest arriving already in your suit. Sandals or slip-on shoes are also required.
-
Bathing suits are required and we suggest arriving already in your suit. Sandals or slip-on shoes are also required. We recommend taking off all jewelry as it can get really hot in the sauna.
-
Arrival is heated by an authentic wood-fired IKI stove from Finland.
-
We believe in the Rule of 200: the temperature (°F) plus the relative humidity (%) should total roughly 200. This creates the balanced, comfortable heat that makes a great sauna experience.
For example, a sauna at 150°F with 50% humidity can feel just as enjoyable as one at 180°F with 20% humidity. Rather than chasing the highest temperature, we focus on creating soft, comfortable heat and beautiful löyly through the right balance of temperature and humidity.
-
Yes! Not only is it allowed, it's encouraged. Without the ability to create löyly, a sauna is simply a hot room.
Before adding water, please check with others. Start slowly, go at your own pace, and pay attention to how your body responds to the heat and steam.
-
Löyly (LOW-lu) is the wave of heat and steam created when water meets hot sauna stones. In Finland, the birthplace of sauna, löyly is often described as the spirit of the sauna itself. Many Finns view the sauna as a living entity, shaped by natural materials that respond to heat and humidity. As water is thrown on the stones, the wood expands and contracts, creating the sense that the sauna is breathing along with those inside it.
-
In Finnish, sauna is pronounced SOW-na (rhymes with "cow"), though you'll hear several pronunciations in North America. However you say it, you're welcome here.
-
The sauna accommodates up to 8 guests.
-
Not specifically. The sauna includes a small entry room that can be used for changing, storing belongings, and transitioning between sauna rounds, but it was not designed as a dedicated changing room.
-
No official “cold plunge tubs” currently. We offer an outdoor rinse shower, and depending on location, guests may also have access to nearby ocean or lake water for cooling off. Follow us on Instagram to see where we’ll be!
-
Yes, but not in the traditional sense. We do not have a shower intended for bathing, and soap or other bathing products are not permitted. The rinse shower is designed specifically for cooling down between sauna rounds and rinsing off after a swim. For private rentals, a standard outdoor garden hose hookup is required to operate the shower.
-
Yes. At this time, Arrival is open to guests 18 years of age and older.
While we appreciate that sauna can be a wonderful experience for people of all ages, our current operating model, waiver requirements, and public session format are designed for adults. We may offer family-friendly or youth-inclusive opportunities in the future.
-
Yes. Arrival operates year-round, with locations and schedules varying seasonally.
-
Sauna can be enjoyed in a wide range of weather conditions, including rain, wind, snow, and cold temperatures. In fact, many people find these conditions enhance the experience.
In the event of severe weather or conditions that make operation, travel, or delivery unsafe, Arrival reserves the right to cancel or reschedule sessions and rentals. If this occurs, we'll work with you to find an alternative date or provide an appropriate refund.
-
Everyone responds differently to heat. Listen to your body, stay hydrated, and step outside to cool off whenever needed. There is no "correct" amount of time to stay in the sauna. Comfort and safety should always guide your experience. Always consult your doctor beforehand if you have any concerns about being in the sauna.
Public Sessions
-
Public sessions are shared sauna experiences. Book a one-hour or two-hour session, move between the sauna and cooling off at your own pace, and enjoy the heat in a relaxed, welcoming environment.
-
Reservations are definitely the way to go! There’s no guarantee that space will be available for walk-ups, but we’ll get you in there if space allows.

Believe us when we say, we hate having to be strict about our cancellation policy, but being a one-sauna operation makes it tough.
Private rentals are fully refundable or may be rescheduled up to 10 days before the rental start date. Cancellations made 5–10 days before the rental start date are eligible for either a 50% refund or a one-time reschedule to another available date. Cancellations made within 5 days of the rental start date are non-refundable and cannot be rescheduled.
In cases of severe weather or unsafe conditions, a full refund will be provided.
